After all the travelling on far away continents it was time to come home to Bavaria in July. Europe in summer is one of the best things in the world, isn't it. This together with seeing our kids, family and friends made it a perfect month.
This posting is about our visit to Prague together with our kids. Since Prague has so much old historic stuff and also good beer, we decided for a weekend trip to the golden city. It is only a 3 ½ hour drive from Munich. A German saying is “Das Gute liegt oft so nah”. So we rented a nice apartment near the old town.
We waited for Michi, who was a little “angeschlagen” from last night, and picked up Naomi at her university in Garching after her last test. We drove our car while Amanda, Erika and Andreas came by bus.
Amanda came all the way from Aschaffenburg on her birthday. The birthday presents this lady got, show she likes Gummi Bears and popcorn.
Since Erika was the only one, who had already visited the city, she was our tour guide on the first day. First of all she taught us, how to ride the public transportation. The experience is much different from riding a bus in South America. The people in the trains have almost the Munich U Bahn look.
With this old tram we went up to the castle, where we found out, that Prague is very popular in summer and has many visitors. We decided not to wait in line for the castle, but explored the area around the castle.
There was also some production work for Uli’s Fiassbook going on. The next picture shows, how much effort it can be to produce one picture for the Fiassbook.
The result is just one picture, but the effort at the set is surprisingly high.
But we got good feedback from the people standing around and even from the figures on the cathedral.
The cathedral is a quite impressive building overlooking the city.
On our way around we watched an international music festival with choirs from all over Europe. The girls were impressed by the Latvian performance. We definitely have to visit this country on our trip.
Walking down the castle hill, Erika saw a vegan restaurant and convinced us to visit the restaurant for lunch. The food was great. We had vegan goulash and homemade lemonade. Everybody liked the food a lot, but these two girls look like they are missing the meat.
It started to rain and we looked for shelter at a historic building, the German embassy. The entrance gave us protection from the rain and we felt a little bit like the East German people in September 1989, who went into the German embassy in order to get their permit to get to Western Germany. They finally succeeded and the German minister of foreign affairs told them on the 30th of September 1989, they could leave to Western Germany. This was historic moment in German history.
It was a little less historic moment, when it stopped raining and we could leave the German embassy to continue our Prague tour.
The John Lennon wall and the peeing guys were our next stops, before we crossed the Karls Bridge with thousands of other people.
After Erika’s impressive Prague tour, we went on a Segway tour in the evening. All the people on Segways look stupid. So we wanted to find out how we would look on a Segway. To tell you right now. We looked stupid, but it felt much better than it looks.
After a long wait we started our night tour through the crowded city. It is amazing, that you can get through the crowds.
Of course, we also had to race each other and Uli made it happen. After a wild passing maneuver he fell off his Segway and hurt himself. Three helpful Indian gentlemen helped him and gave him a bandage, while Michelle was just giving her “Don’t be a baby” look. We could continue our tour and had lots of fun.
Not so much fun was had by our tour guide, since his vehicle ran out of battery and had to pull the thing around until they brought a substitute Segway. Anyway, we had a great time and earned a good beer. Michi found a pub, where you have your own tap on each table and where you could see how much beer every table and every bar of the chain had been consumed up on a big screen.
It sounds like the beer drinking Olympics but we had a good time and stopped drinking in time and still could walk out of the pub. Michelle and Uli went home. The young generation went out to visit the Hemmingway bar and the biggest club in Europe.
After this evening some people looked different in the morning while looking in a mirror.
Even some buildings were not straight anymore.
We had an excellent time in Prague and it was so much fun to spend time with Naomi, Michi, Amanda, Andreas and Erika. Only our Mexican daughter Andrea was missing, but are looking forward to visit her in fall in Mexico.
